1960 Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart was first introduced for the 1960 model year. Divided into three series, the Seneca, the Pioneer, and the Pheonix; the 1960 Dodge Dart was developed as a low-priced car for the Dodge dealerhips and was introduced to replace the Plymouths being sold by the Dodge dealers since 1930. The Dodge Dart was instantly popular; with the 225 slant-6 widely used as a taxicab. Dart sales were so strong in 1960 that Dodge had to cut back its medium-priced model lineup; the Matador was discontinued after the 1960 model year as buyers gravitated towards the Dart Pioneer.
The 1960 Dart Dart had a shorter wheelbase than the standard-size Dodge line and was based on the Plymouth platform. The Dart came with an all-new engine design: the 225cu.in (3.7 L) Slant-6. 318cu.in (5.2 L) and 361cu.in (5.9 L). The V8s were available with 2bbl or 4bbl carburetors and with single or dual exhaust.![]() |
